Mohammad Osman Yassein was a Sudanese politician, diplomat, humanitarian and poet who played a significant role in the development of Sudan and other communities through his work with the United Nations and various government roles.
He was fluent in Arabic, English, and French, both in writing and speaking. During his career, he held several significant positions and was an active and influential member of the administrative apparatus of the Government of Sudan for thirty years, working within the framework of the United Nations in several European, African, and Arab countries.
Mr. Yassein made notable contributions to the development of Sudan and other Countries. He was awarded multiple honors in the fields of his cultural and political activities, including the Order of the Republic from the Republic of Egypt and the Star of Yugoslavia from Yugoslavia.
1915: He was born in November 1915 in the city of Berber in northern Sudan, where his father, Sheikh Osman Yassein, worked as a teacher
1935: Completed secondary education at Gordon Memorial College
1939-1941: Enrolled in the School of Public Administration at Gordon Memorial College and graduated
1948: Obtained a Bachelor's degree (with honors) from the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at the University of London, United Kingdom.
1951-1952: Worked as Sudan's first consul in Asmara, Eritrea
1954-1955: He was the first Sudanese Governer of the Upper Nile Province in southern Sudan, where he planned the Mallet agricultural project as an experiment in community development in developing areas during his tenure as director of the Upper Nile Province
1956-1965: Chosen as the first permanent Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after Sudan gained its independence
1961: He was invited by the Secretary-General United Nations Dag Hammarskjöld to the United Nations Head Quarter in New York to develop a special program to train diplomats in developing countries
1962: Obtained a Master's degree in Economics from the London School of Economics
1966-1967: Worked as a United Nations advisor for organizing the civil service in Zambia
1968-1970: Worked as a United Nations advisor for public administration for the Government of the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen in Aden
1970: Headed the United Nations mission to the Empty Quarter within the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and presented a report titled "Fact-Finding in the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen about Hadhramaut and the Northern Desert."
1971: Chosen as a resident representative of the United Nations in North Yemen in Sana'a
1971: Received a fellowship in International Relations from the Adlai Stevenson Institute at the University of Chicago
1971-1975: Served as a resident representative of the UNDP in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in Amman
1975-1977: Appointed as the CEO of Sudan Commercial Bank
1976: Appointed as the first Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sudanese Music and Theater Institute
July 5, 1977: Passed away in Khartoum, Sudan
